Ninja Night Race: One for the History Books

We asked and riders responded: YES, we want to race our mountain bikes at night. And so, together we made history at USA Cycling’s first-ever sanctioned race in the dark. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the inaugural NINJA NIGHT RACE. This sold-out event will go down in the history books.ninja_night_race_med

We especially want to thank our tremendous crew of volunteers. It’s not every day you can find 18 people willing to stand alone in the dark on a race course. Thanks to everyone who helped get the course marked, the registration rolling and the expo buzzing.

We also want to thank our amazing sponsors: Spoke Grenade, San Diego Mountain Bike Skills, Richard Duquette, PowerBar, Rudy Project, ISF Lab Training Systems, Crank Cycling, Loaded Precision and Zumwalt’s Bike Center. A special thank you goes to our friends at Giro di San Diego for lending us their timing equipment. Without all of this support, we just couldn’t have done it.

Ninja Night RaceMost importantly we want to thank all the racers that came out for a night of fun and smiles for miles. Not to mention insanely fast lap times. Congratulations to our top men’s finishers, Pro racer Brent Preszlow and Cat 1 racer Ben Jones who tied for the fastest time of the night, 1:22:41 over three laps. And congratulations to our top women’s finisher, Cat 2 racer Lisa Hauck for her two-lap time of 1:05:18. Full results can be found here.

After the race, you may have enjoyed a delicious tamale or had your photo taken. For that we want to thank TAMALES D’Pepe, and the fabulous photographers we had on course and around the expo. Check out Matthew Hulet’s site for his yearbook-quality racer portraits, and be sure to stop by Pink Shorts Photography’s Facebook page for even more great images.

Thanks to everyone for making the first NINJA NIGHT RACE a huge success. We’re already looking forward to the next event, so stay tuned for more details. In the mean time, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your feedback so we make these events even better.
